# What can I make with what I've got?

Tick what's in the fridge and cupboards. MealWhim shows the meals you're closest to, with anything missing listed underneath.

## How the matching works

Every one of MealWhim's meal ideas has a short list of key ingredients. The finder compares them with what you've ticked and puts the meals that need the fewest extra things first; among those, meals that use more of your ingredients come higher. A meal only appears if it uses at least one thing you ticked, not just the basics.

With **Assume I have the basics** on, everyday items such as salt and pepper, oil, onions, garlic, flour and dried spices count as being in the cupboard. Switch it off to tick them one by one. Ingredients are deliberately broad, so "cheddar or similar cheese" covers most hard cheeses and "fresh herbs" whatever you have. Your ticks are saved in this browser for next time.

Found a recipe on a site you don't know?

When the recipe for tonight's idea, or a coupon for the missing ingredient, sits behind an unfamiliar link, you can open it in [WebTraceCheck's disposable cloud browser](https://webtracecheck.com/). The page loads on an isolated desktop that is deleted afterwards, so its ads and trackers stay out of your own browser.

## Questions

**Does it check for allergies or dietary needs?**

Only vegetarian and vegan, as described on each idea. It can't know what's in your packaged ingredients, so if you cook for an allergy, check every label yourself.

**Why doesn't a dish I know appear?**

The finder only knows MealWhim's own list of ideas, and only their key ingredients. Try ticking a broader set, or raise "Missing at most".
